Rated Study Strategy

Philosophy:

• Understand that this Study Strategy isn’t about rote memorization; it’s about deep exploration and understanding of the material, relating it to personal and study experiences.

• The Strategy aligns with how our brains learn and helps avoid common learning errors, providing significant advantages in learning efficiency and effectiveness.

• This Strategy will guide the user studying, emphasizing the user study challenging questions and using resources rather than repeatedly taking practice tests.

• Practice tests alone won’t prepare a candidate adequately; everyone must study the material using the strategy outlined in Phase 1 through 6 below.

• Human error rates are high on questions requiring complex calculations; understanding the concepts for these questions is crucial for success, but memorizing some simple numerical answers as a backup can reduce errors during anxiety filled exam.

Strategy:

Phase 1

• Begin by selecting “Knowledge Exam” from the Main Menu page. Then, choose the appropriate test, such as Aviation Mechanic General, Airframe, or Powerplant (starting with General is recommended), which will direct the user to the topics. After selecting the

FIRST AVAILABLE individual topic on the topics screen, proceed. In Study Mode, opt for “Flashcards” (where the user will view the correct question and answer). Go through the questions in this topic ONCE before moving to Phase 2. Phase 1 goal is to review the

scope of questions in the bank. This phase emphasizes deep exploration and understanding of the material rather than rote memorization.

Phase 2

• Once you complete the questions selected from Phase 1, return and select the SAME Phase 1 topic AGAIN. This time, choose “Learning and Practice” mode. Click “Shuffle Answer Choices.” Begin reviewing the questions in this topic ONCE again. Phase 2 goal

is to identify unfamiliar or missed questions. Questions missed will be automatically “Flagged” by the Rated application. Read each question carefully, and if you’re unsure, “Flag” it for further review. Avoid preoccupation with unfamiliar questions; instead, focus

on identifying and moving along reviewing the topic. After completing Phase 2, repeat Phase 1 and 2 INDIVIDUALLY for the remaining topics for this exam. Again, Phase 1 & 2 main goal is to familiarize the user with the types of questions while focusing the areas of

weakness that will be addressed during Phases 3 & 4.

Phase 3

• After going through the individual topics using Phases 1 & 2, return and select ALL topics. Choose “Learning and Practice” mode again and “Shuffle Answer Choices.” Review every question for the current exam. Questions missed during Phases 2 & 3 will be given

higher priority. Assess your confidence level for user previously flagged questions from Phase 2; remove flags for questions that are no longer misunderstood, but any level of uncertainty retain or flag the question. Phase 3 goal is to review explanations for flagged

or missed questions, focusing on understanding rather than rote memorization.

Phase 4

• Setup is the same as Phase 3. Review all topics and shuffle answers, then begin reviewing. This phase will identify questions for this exam that the user NEEDs to learn/study. Avoid burnout, as studying unfamiliar questions may prove challenging.

Solidify questions you know by heart, and focus on exploring areas of confusion or difficulty. Phase 4 goals is to utilize explanations and references associated with the question to gain a deeper understanding, only thorough studying the user will achieve

their goal of becoming a certificated mechanic.

Phase 5

• Setup is the same as Phase 4, but ONLY flagged questions are reviewed. This is the users fourth time thorough the question bank. Questions answered correctly indicate successful studying, while missed questions require further review. Phase 5 goal is to review only flagged questions for repetition and final polish before taking a practice test.

Phase 6

• Finally, assess your learning by taking ONLY ONE practice test. Access the “Pre-Test Check” to generate a unique practice test and evaluate your knowledge. Aim for a score of 90% or higher. If you score below 90%, revisit Phases 3 and 4. Score 90% or above?

Schedule the exam on the PSI website. In the week leading up to the exam, review ALL questions regularly to remain proficient. An hour before the scheduled exam, review the challenging questions identified in flashcard mode (question and answer). The goal here is to encounter these challenging questions before walking into the exam.
