Rated Oral Study Strategy
After passing the three Knowledge Exams, candidates must complete the Oral and Practical Exam (O&P). Rated refers to this as the O&P portions of the A&P process. These portions are conducted by a Designated Maintenance Examiner (DME). During the Oral portion, candidates can demonstrate that any missed Knowledge Code (KCode) elements were simply mistakes. The DME inputs test results and the system select Oral questions based on missed KCodes. Rated includes Oral questions in the application, simulating the DME experience with a text-to-voice user interface to improve learning.
Philosophy:
• The Oral Section evaluates your ability to articulate aeronautical knowledge and demonstrate risk management understanding without reference materials (from memory). While our users should use the ACS, handbooks (like the FAA-H-8083 series), 14 CFR parts, Advisory Circulars, and manufacturer's manuals for preparation, the ability to recall and articulate the information without these aids is critical for the Oral Section. Practice explaining concepts out loud, which is the key feature of Rated.
• Rated simulates real testing conditions as closely as possible by allowing users to speak answers aloud, building confidence in verbal communication skills essential for certification.
• While Rated cannot perfectly predict Knowledge Code (KCode) elements to Risk Management Code (RCode) elements like the actual written exams, it can provide valuable visual connections of KCode elements by subject area requiring attention.
• The strategy emphasizes that our users master the subject rather than isolated elements, ensuring preparation in both deficient elements and possible questions in the subject area.
• Success requires the ability to "Determine, Identify, Create..." solutions or demonstrate awareness of the associated risks. This involves understanding potential hazards and how to mitigate them.
User Interface:
• Review your Airman Knowledge Test Report (AKTR) when ready to study for the Oral Portion.
• Open Rated and navigate to the Oral Section for the appropriate exam. The app will provide an interface for users to select AKTR missed KCode elements.
• Once selection is complete, tap the "Results" button. Rated will map (link) KCode elements to corresponding RCode elements.
• Use the app's highlights to visually break down KCode elements missed by subject area. Rated highlights RCode elements that are mapped to missed KCodes and provides our users with a way to organize their studies for a subject area, especially large subjects like Subject A (Fundamentals of Electricity and Electronics). Example: Missed AM.I.A.K15 (Aircraft Batteries), Rated recommends studying all of Subject A (Fundamentals of Electricity and Electronics).
• Reference materials provided help put questions in their proper context.
• Focus on complete subject areas, not just individual KCode elements missed.
Rated App Feature:
• KCode to RCode Mapping: Visual representation of knowledge relationships
• Voice Recognition: Practice speaking answers to build verbal confidence
• Subject Filtering: Focus on specific areas where improvement is needed
• Visual Feedback: See knowledge gaps categorized by elements and subject
• Reference Integration: Access relevant materials to understand context
